The Blackberry Bold 9700, also known as the BlackBerry Bold 2, is a 3G BlackBerry Phone in the Blackberry Bold family. The Blackberry Bold 2 outperforms the BB Bold 9000 in terms of performance, camera, display resolution, optical trackpad, smaller form factor, and upgradeability to BlackBerry 6 OS. The Blackberry Bold 2 has high-speed HSDPA data/internet, a built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS and Blackberry maps, wireless email, corporate data access, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, and Wi-Fi, just like the Bold 1. The BlackBerry Bold 2 does, however, have a 3.2 megapixel camera. The BlackBerry 9720 is an excellent upgrade to the Bold 2.

The Blackberry Bold 9700 has a 2.44-inch 64k color TFT display with a 480 x 360 pixel resolution. The display quality is excellent. The trackball on the Blackberry Bold 9000 is replaced by a Touch-sensitive optical trackpad on the Blackberry Bold 2. The Blackberry Bold 2 retains its 35-key QWERTY keyboard, but due to the smaller form factor, it appears slightly crammed.

RIM improved the camera on the Blackberry Bold 2 from the much-maligned 2.0 megapixel camera on the Blackberry Bold 9000 to a 3.2 megapixel camera that offers better picture quality. The camera can record video, has autofocus, image stabilisation, an LED flash, and a 2X digital zoom.

The Blackberry Bold 2 9700 supports UMTS/HSDPA high-speed data services. Data services are available on GSM networks via GPRS and EDGE. With Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g support, the Blackberry Bold 2 connects to wireless LAN networks. Wi-Fi allows you to connect to Blackberry Enterprise and Internet Servers.
