As with the S8 series last year, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus smartphone was unveiled with the Samsung Galaxy S9. The smartphone, which was officially introduced at the MWC 2018 event yesterday, is quite similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, with only minor variations. Apart from being larger than the S9 variant, it also has a dual back camera. The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is more expensive than the smaller variant, but it has all of the same features as the smaller model plus a few extras.

Design and Display

Aside from the striking resemblance between the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus and the Galaxy S8 Plus, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is somewhat larger but retains the same screen size. The smaller S9 variant is the same, albeit with a dual rear camera and a larger screen. There’s also the curved edges that many has been trying to emulate including Nokia’s latest flagship, the Nokia 8 Sirocco smartphone.

With the big AMOLED infinity display and no bezels on the sides, everything is very much the same as before. You’ll also get the same 6.2-inch 2960 x 1440 pixel display with a pixel density of 529 pixels per inch. Check out our review of the Samsung Galaxy S9, which is similar to this one.

Battery and Camera

The battery is one of the distinctions between the two smartphones unveiled yesterday. In comparison to the S9, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has a 500mAh battery. It has a 3, 500mAh Li-ion battery and wireless charging, as well as Quick charge technology for charging through the USB Type-C port.

The secondary camera on the smartphone, which offers 2X optical zoom, is the single feature that distinguishes the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus from the Galaxy S9 smartphone. The S9 smartphone also has OIS and dual aperture, as previously mentioned.

It contains two 12MP cameras, one with dual aperture (f/1.5, f/2.4), similar to the S9 smartphone, and the other with an f/2.4 aperture. For selfies, there’s an 8MP f/1.7 camera with AR Emoji, which turns you into a 3D emoji character.

Hardware and Software

Except for the storage and RAM size, both smartphones announced yesterday share the identical hardware. There are two versions of the Octa-core processor in the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, one with Samsung’s Exynos 9810 SoC and a Mali-G72 MP18 GPU and the other with Qualcomm’s MSM8998 Snapdragon 845 and an Adreno 630 GPU. The former travels to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, while the latter travels to China and the United States.

Moving on to storage and memory, the phone has a greater 6GB RAM and roughly 128GB of built-in storage, as well as support for a memory card up to 200GB. The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is based on Android 8.0 Oreo and features Samsung Experience UI on top. You may also switch the phone to landscape mode directly from the home screen or menu.
