Dating in the digital age can be a tricky thing. With so many dating apps and websites to choose from, it can feel like there are more options than potential partners. And while some people find love through sites like Tinder or OkCupid, others end up going out with someone they met online but barely knew. Working up the courage to ask someone on a date is difficult under any circumstances.
It’s even harder when you’re trying to figure out the best way to go about it. That’s why so many people have turned to online dating as an easy alternative to asking someone out face-to-face.
However, things are changing when it comes to how we meet potential partners and begin new relationships.
As technology has advanced, social media platforms like Facebook have introduced new ways for users to meet new people based on their interests. Thus, we now have dating apps specifically tailored toward users who want something other than a one-night stand or friends with benefits arrangement.

The Rise of Facebook Dating
With the rise of social media, it makes sense that people would want to start using it to meet potential partners. After all, social media allows you to create a “profile” that includes information about your interests and hobbies, as well as what you’re looking for in a relationship.
This is in contrast to many dating apps, where you have to create a completely new persona based on appearance alone. Nowadays, you can find dating apps on almost any social media platform, including Twitter, Instagram, and, of course, Facebook.
Because of Facebook’s large user base and popularity, many dating apps have migrated away from other platforms to Facebook, in part because it allows them to reach a wider audience. Some dating apps have even been created as an extension of existing social media platforms.
For example, Bumble was originally designed for women to initiate conversations with men, and it has since expanded to become a full-scale online dating platform with a variety of apps for different social media platforms, including Facebook.
Why Are People Turning to Facebook Dating?
One of the main reasons people are flocking to Facebook for dating is because it is free. Unlike some dating apps that charge a monthly fee, or websites that offer “premium” features that can sometimes be restrictive, Facebook is completely free to use.
Although not all dating apps offer completely free memberships, they often have a variety of paid features that can be restrictive.
For example, some dating apps offer a “free” version that allows you to meet potential partners through the app, but you aren’t able to see who liked you. Additionally, Facebook dating allows you to meet and interact with people based on more than just their looks.
Through your interests and past posts, you can find people who are truly compatible with you, and you don’t have to worry about being misled because a potential partner may be misrepresenting themselves.
The Problems with Traditional Dating Apps
Not everyone who wants to use social media to meet potential partners is comfortable on Facebook. For some, it can be difficult to create an honest and genuine profile on an app that they’ve used since they were teenagers.
Others may not feel comfortable using Facebook to meet new people because they don’t want their parents, children, or employer finding out.
When choosing a dating app, you may be limited by what operating system you use. For example, if you have an iPhone, you may only be able to use apps designed for iOS. Additionally, dating apps designed for specific platforms may only be available for Apple or Android devices.
How Facebook is Improving the Online Dating Experience
As we’ve seen, there are some downsides to using traditional dating apps, and some people may not be comfortable using them at all. Facebook dating apps make it easy for people to meet potential partners, regardless of whether or not they are active on Facebook. However, dating apps available on Facebook have also improved the online dating experience in a number of ways:
- Speed: Dating apps have made it easier to meet people. You’re not limited to a place or time, and you can decide who you want to “like.”
- Privacy: Dating apps ensure that the information you share with potential partners is kept private. You can decide who has access to your profile, and you can block people who behave inappropriately.
- Comfort: Dating apps make it easier to meet new people without putting yourself in a potentially awkward situation. You’re in a safe environment, and you can take your time getting to know people.
How to Meet Someone Using a Facebook Dating App
Some dating apps are more general than others. For example, you can use apps like eHarmony or Match to find a long-term relationship, while apps like Tinder or Bumble are geared toward casual dating. When searching for a dating app on Facebook, first decide what you’re looking for in a relationship or a potential partners.
Afterward, search for “dating apps” on Facebook and select the one you feel most comfortable with. You can also choose to join multiple dating apps through Facebook so you have more options.
Once you’ve joined the dating app of your choice, go to your “Info” section to add basic information, such as your name and your age. Then, write a short description of what you’re looking for in a partner and select the dating app you want to use.
The Benefits of Facebook Dating
As we’ve discussed, Facebook dating has many benefits, including the fact that it’s completely free. Additionally, Facebook dating allows you to meet potential partners based on more than just their looks.
Through your interests and past posts, you can find people who are truly compatible with you, and you don’t have to worry about being misled because a potential partner may be misrepresenting themselves.
Your interests and hobbies can also help you find dating partners based on your shared interests. Dating apps on Facebook allow you to search for people based on their interests, as well as their age and location. Depending on the dating app, you can also search based on skin color and sexual preferences.
Downsides of Using Facebook for Dating
As with any dating method, Facebook dating has potential downsides. For example, you can’t be sure that someone you meet through Facebook is who they say they are. Some scammers take advantage of dating apps by creating fake profiles and messaging people they think will be interested in meeting up.
Luckily, there are ways to protect yourself against scammers while using Facebook dating apps. First, you should always try to meet people in a public place. You should also meet your potential dates during the day so you can see what they look like in natural light.
Facebook Dating: A Growing Trend
As we’ve discussed, dating apps on Facebook are becoming increasingly popular. In fact, a recent study found that 62% of Tinder users also use Facebook as a dating platform. The truth is that dating apps are an important part of the online dating experience, and Facebook dating apps are an easy way to meet potential partners.
Whether you’re hoping to find a long-term relationship or casual dating, Facebook dating apps are an easy way to find people based on more than just their looks.
