There are so many ways to meet and date new people in this world, right? Not always. If you’re a millennial who lives in a big city, maybe. But if you’re someone whose social circle is already fairly tight-knit, it can feel like there aren’t that many options to meet new people.
However, there are still some great ways to meet someone even if you don’t go out that much or have many friends in your area: social media.
Even though they may feel like the last places where anyone would find love, it turns out that sites like Facebook can actually be fantastic tools for meeting new people and finding love.
With the right strategy, it’s not hard to meet someone on Facebook — even if you might not realize exactly how to do that. Keep reading for tips on how to boost your chances of meeting someone special on Facebook with these easy hacks!

Be Very Specific About What You’re Looking For
If you’re trying to meet new people on Facebook, the first thing you need to do is be very specific about what you’re looking for. This might seem counter-intuitive, but it can actually work.
For example, let’s say you want to date someone who lives in your area. If you filter out everyone who doesn’t live in your state and then look through the filtered list of people, you will find a lot more matches.
The same goes with dating interests. If you want to date someone who has kids, don’t just filter out everyone without children and then search — instead, filter out everyone without children and then apply separate filters for adults with no kids or single adults with children.
So once you have a good idea of exactly what you want (and are willing to give), it should be easier for Facebook to match up users that share those interests with yours. You may not always find the perfect match right away — or ever — but this can help increase your chances of finding someone special!
Make Sure Your Profile Is Complete And Up-To-Date
The first step to meeting someone on Facebook is making sure your profile is complete and up-to-date. This can be a little daunting if you’ve been on the site for a while, but it’s worth the time it takes to make sure everything is accurate.
Your profile picture should be updated to something more recent if possible. Your cover photo should also reflect who you are right now — not what you were two years ago when you were in college or five years ago when you had different job responsibilities. In addition, make sure your bio is updated with any new information about yourself.
Maybe you got married or had a kid recently? Maybe your career has taken an exciting turn? Whatever it may be, make sure these changes are reflected on your profile so people can get to know you better and see who they might be interested in meeting!
Use Facebook Dating Apps
Facebook offers an app called “Dating” that you can use to find someone on Facebook. It’s pretty convenient, since you can get matched with other people without having to leave the app.
Facebook Dating works just like any other dating app, but what makes it different is that it matches you with people who are friends of your Facebook friends.
For example, if your friend says “yes” to the person whom they’re matched with, then that person gets access to all of their mutual friends. You’ll know your potential match’s name and profile picture before meeting them, which means there are no surprises on the first date!
This also means that it’s easier for people who don’t want their family members to see them on a dating app to create a Tinder or Bumble account, but still be connected with their friends and family through this option.
Commit To Going To Events Where You Can Meet People In Real Life
If you want to meet someone on Facebook, the best way is to go out into the world and meet people. Maybe it’s something you already do, or maybe you need a little help figuring out where to do it and how.
One of the most effective ways to meet people in real life is by committing to an event that interests you — and then actually showing up! It can be hard for some people to get off their couch and go out into the city, but once they’re there they often find that they enjoy themselves more than they thought they would.
It also helps if when you commit to going somewhere, make sure it’s somewhere that encourages meeting new people. A party at your friend’s house may be fun, but it might not have many opportunities for meeting new people.
A networking event or conference might have a higher chance of success. And if you really want a sense of community while getting out of your apartment, consider joining Meetup events in your area that interest you! These are great ways to get out of the house and connect with others who share your interests.
Join Groups That Are Full Of People Your Age Or Who Have Similar Interests
One easy way to start meeting people on Facebook is by joining groups that are full of people your age or who have similar interests. Most of these groups will have a dedicated page on their website, and all you’ll need to do is find the group in question and go through the process of joining.
After you’ve joined a few groups, you’ll be able to see who else is active in those groups — and some of them may go to the same school as you! It’s not too difficult to get someone’s attention if you know they’re at least on the same campus as you.
Don’t Forget Good Old Fashioned Networking
One way to meet someone on Facebook is through the old fashioned method of networking. For example, if you know someone who knows someone else on Facebook, and you have mutual friends, there’s a chance you can make a friend request.
Another way to find people in your area is by joining groups with similar interests as yours. If you’ve relocated for work, it may be difficult to find people who share your interests and are also in the same location.
Joining Facebook groups gives you a place where your interests are met, and you can make friends with other people who enjoy those same activities. You never know what friendships or relationships might come from it!
Don’t be afraid to message first
The first step in meeting someone on Facebook is to message them. Sometimes this can seem scary, but there are some basic rules that you should follow to make it easier.
1) Don’t message people who you don’t know.
2) Make sure your profile picture is up to date and doesn’t include your face.
3) Try not to be too judgemental or harsh when chatting with other people.
4) Keep in mind that everyone wants to find love and what you say could be the difference between the person responding or moving on.
Use Facebook Live to meet potential partners in real time
Have you ever seen those people on Facebook who are broadcasting their lives to the world? It’s usually pretty entertaining, but it also turns out that it can be a great way to find love.
If you’re looking for someone, consider hopping on Facebook Live and broadcasting your own life for a few minutes.
Even if you don’t get an immediate response from your potential date, they might see the live video later and send you a message! This is an especially good idea if you don’t have many friends on Facebook who live near you.
You might not realize how many people there are in your area who want to meet someone like you! You may also want to use this strategy if you feel uncomfortable with the idea of dating online.
If so, meeting someone in person is still possible so long as they see your broadcast first and know what they’re getting into.
Go to Events Where You Can Meet People in Real Life
One of the best ways to meet people on Facebook is to go to events where you can actually meet them in real life. If you’re not going out too much, this might be a great way for you to get out there and meet new people.
Often, these sorts of events are organized through Facebook groups, so even if it seems like you don’t know anyone going, it doesn’t mean that nobody from your social circle will be there.
In addition, joining in on a group event will give you more opportunities to make friends at various stages of your life. If the people in your current group of friends are all 10 years older than you and married with children, this might be the perfect opportunity for you meet some younger people who are single and looking for love.
The possibilities are pretty much endless when it comes to how these events could impact your love life online or offline.
Be Yourself
Don’t try to be someone you aren’t just to get a date. If you are shy, just be yourself and let the other person come to you. You never know where that might lead. And if someone is into your personality, they will usually hang around even if there are other people out there who are more outgoing.
