Access your Mchsi.com email with IMAP
1. What’s the difference between IMAP and SMTP?
The quick response is that SMTP is used to send mail to other servers, whereas IMAP connects to the server of your email provider to receive email.
IMAP, or Internet Message Access Standard, is a protocol that asks your email provider to store all of your emails and folders on its own servers. As a result, you will always be able to access your email account and view any messages you have received, regardless of whether you are using webmail or an email client.
The STMP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) protocol is used to deliver emails from your account to different recipients. It allows your email client to establish a connection with your provider’s server in order to send outgoing mail, particularly to other servers.
2. Does Mailbird Support IMAP? / Does Mailbird Support POP3?
Yes. Most email providers can be connected to by Mailbird using IMAP or POP3. When you enter your email address, Mailbird’s technology can instantly determine the server settings.
You can configure your email manually by inputting the information your provider has provided for their server settings, such as the IMAP or POP3 Port and IMAP or POP3 Security, if it is unable to identify the settings.
The username and password you have chosen with your email provider must also be entered.
3. What does ‘port’ mean in my email settings?
The “port” can be compared to an address. The port identifies the application running on a computer in the same way that an IP address identifies the location of a computer.
There are a few typical port numbers; always configure your email server to Mailbird using the suggested parameters.
4. How do I know if I need POP3 or IMAP?
Choose IMAP if you care about saving space on your desktop or if you’re concerned about email backups. This indicates that your emails will be kept on your email provider’s server.
Your emails will be downloaded by POP3 and kept locally before being removed from the server. Although this will save up space on your server, those emails won’t be accessible online if something were to happen to your local storage. POP3 is an alternative if you are comfortable with only having a local copy of your files.
5. How can I import my old emails?
Your old emails will be automatically imported if they are still present in your account. You may handle your emails on any device that is connected to your account thanks to the IMAP protocol, which synchronizes your emails and folders with the email server.
You won’t need to take any further steps to view your emails after you’ve added your Mchsi.com account to Mailbird.
Note: Due to IMAP standards, you cannot import emails that are stored on your local server.
