Design and Display
Although there have been rumors that Asus may have attempted to alter the Rog Phone’s design to accommodate both gamers and regular smartphone users, the gaming accents have so far proved irremovable. Looking around its chassis makes the implied move seem pointless.
In actuality, the front panel is the sole subdued aspect of this smartphone’s design. When the display is off, even staring may not reveal many clues. But looking at the sides and back shows a lot.
Please take note that the ASUS ROG 5 Ultimate’s build features Gorilla glass Victus upfront, which we also saw on the Samsung Galaxy S21 extreme 5G, before we talk about chassis placements. Other construction features include metal for the frame and gorilla glass 3 for the back.
The rear features a more refined design than the Asus Rog Phone 3 did. Lines dividing parts, a camera module with three cameras, an LED flash, the ROG logo, which essentially identifies the device as an Asus smartphone, and some other important words can all be seen here.
A tiny monochromic OLED display that can be configured to show any image of your choosing or to show writing is the focal point of the rear panel design.
The 6.78-inch AMOLED display is located in the front and is framed by modest top and bottom bezels. Highlights of this monitor include its 1080 x 2488 resolution, 395 PPI density, and 144 Hz refresh rate.
Gaming Ergonomics
Aside from having top-tier gaming performance, having superb ergonomics is a requirement that is widely sought after in the business because it distinguishes it from typical smartphones with outrageous features.
Stress related to various orientation games is definitely not something you want to cope with.
As of yet, Asus has responded favorably to the inclusion of ergonomics. In order to achieve this, the ROG 5 Ultimate has USB ports on the bottom and the side, eliminating the disruption that USB cables cause.
Additionally, there are ultrasonic triggers on the rear and both ends of the right side. These triggers can be made to replace the game controllers in various ways.
The ability to design the ultrasonic triggers to function as game controls gives smartphone gamers extra screen space to play on.
With the snap-on fan cooler accessory fitted, enthusiasts will also receive additional dual re-mappable trigger buttons in addition to the ultrasonic triggers on the ASUS ROG 5 Ultimate’s body.
The Cameras
It turns out that the ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate’s cameras received relatively little attention. As far as on-paper specifications are concerned, Asus didn’t really make any significant modifications; we essentially have the same configuration as the ROG Phone 5.
There is no doubting the thrill that comes with innovation, even though the cameras do resemble their predecessors. As long as we have decent hardware, this isn’t really a negative thing.
A triple camera configuration with a 64MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a 13MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.5 aperture, and a 125-degree field of view is present on the back of the device.
A 5MP macro camera with an aperture of f/2.0 is the final component of the back camera system. The rear camera arrangement can record films at a maximum resolution of 8K at 30 frames per second, just like the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra.
Up front, there is a single 24MP camera with an f/2.5 aperture. The video resolution on this camera is 1080p at 30 frames per second.
Hardware
Although the ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate’s style and ergonomics may have made you tighten your seatbelt, Asus is once again pushing the limits of smartphone performance with incredible specifications.
512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, a massive 18GB RAM, an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 CPU with a 5nm technology, an Adreno 660 GPU, and a non-removable 6000mAh battery with support for 65W charging capacity are all found inside the device.
The ROG Phone 5 Ultimate’s 6000mAh battery was divided into two 3000mAh cells to help the device reach its 65W charge capability and to limit the heat generated during charging.
Software
The ROG UI operates on top of the Android 11 operating system on the ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate.
The gaming experience is also influenced by its software in addition to its ROG UI and Android operating system.
The Armoury Crate app, a software feature that enables you select preferred settings that will automatically launch with games at launch, has also been discontinued by Asus. It more distracts from having distinctive, personalized accounts for other games.
You’d probably want to adjust a game’s refresh rate, add CPU boost, increase graphics speed, turn off the network, etc. It’s very cool, in my opinion, because the Crate app enables you choose your preferred gaming settings and have the phone automatically transition to them (known as Profiles) whenever the game is launched.
Connectivity
Two USB Type-C ports are available on the ASUS Rog Phone 5 Ultimate, one on the bottom and one on the side. We also include Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
5G has a limit on how much internet is available in the sub-6 category. This means that enthusiasts can use 5G connectivity for downloading, streaming, and uploads in locations with 5G coverage.
ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate Price and Availability
Starting at around $999, the ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate costs roughly 420,332 Naira in Nigeria, 173,893 KSH in Kenya, and 9,095 GHS in Ghana.
On March 10, 2021, ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate was revealed. It is anticipated to go on sale in May 2021.
