Making sense of Samsung’s Galaxy A and M series models is becoming increasingly difficult as new models are introduced with small updates, but they don’t necessarily line up in a logical order. For example, the Galaxy M21 (Review) was essentially a Galaxy M30s (Review) with a different selfie camera, but based on the model names, that connection is impossible to make.
Samsung Galaxy A31 Summary
Even though the Galaxy A31’s design isn’t very innovative for a budget Samsung handset, I appreciate how compact and light it is. Although the all-polycarbonate body feels durable, it is readily fingerprinted. During this assessment, the Galaxy A31 was generally comfortable to use on a daily basis.
The Galaxy A31 features a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with full-HD+ (1080×2400 pixels) resolution. Even during the day, I found it to be more than acceptable in terms of light. There’s an in-display fingerprint sensor, which isn’t particularly fast but works nicely if you press it firmly.
Samsung has employed the MediaTek Helio P65 octa-core SoC, which I wouldn’t mind seeing in a phone that costs less than Rs. 10,000, but I wouldn’t expect it in a phone that costs more than Rs. 20,000. Samsung’s One UI v2.1, which is based on Android 10, is likewise sluggish in general.
A primary 48-megapixel sensor, an 8-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens, a 5-megapixel depth camera, and a 5-megapixel macro camera are among the four cameras on the rear. Overall, the Galaxy A31’s cameras are unimpressive and missing key capabilities found in phones that cost significantly less.
