Love is a dangerous game. Tom Cruise is one of the hottest starring men in Hollywood, and he’s had his fair share of celebrity flames off-screen.

The Jack Reacher star has been married three times: from 1987 to 1990 to Mimi Rogers, from 1990 to 2001 to Nicole Kidman, and from 2006 to 2012 to Katie Holmes. As his career progressed, his splits drew even more notice.

Fans assumed Cruise’s engagement in Scientology was to fault when his 11-year marriage to the Big Little Lies actress ended. Later, he expressed his intention to keep the cause for his decision a secret.

“She knows why, and I know why,” he said of the breakup to Vanity Fair. “I wish her well because she is the mother of my children.” And I believe you simply go on. That is not something I say lightly. That is not something I say lightly. Things happen in life, and you try everything you can to help in any way you can, but there comes a point when you just have to accept the harsh fact.”

Kidman, for her part, said in 2002 to the same publication that she “fell madly, passionately in love” with her ex-husband. “He completely swept me off my feet….” “And, as happens when you fall in love, my entire plan for my life — I was like, ‘Forget it. This is it,'” she continued. “I willfully became consumed by it.” And I desperately wanted to have a child with him. It didn’t matter to me if we were married or not.”

The actress from Moulin Rouge! had an ectopic pregnancy around the time of their breakup. During their marriage, the now-ex-couple adopted two children, whom Kidman has tried to keep “extremely discreet” over the years.

“I have to safeguard those connections.” In 2019, she told Australia’s Who magazine, “I know 100 percent that I would give up my life for my children because that is what my purpose is.” “They’ve reached adulthood. They have the ability to make their own choices. They chose to be Scientologists, and it is my obligation as a mother to love them.”

Following his breakup from the heroine of The Undoing, Cruise married Holmes, with whom he had a daughter in 2006. They married the same year, but in 2012, the Dawson’s Creek alum filed for divorce.

A source informed Us Weekly at the time of their split that Kidman had sought out to Holmes. Years later, the star of Batman Begins discussed her journey to single parenting.

In her April 2020 InStyle cover story, she noted, “That time was intense.” “I was getting a lot of attention, and I was dealing with a small child on top of it.” … [I want to ensure] that she is completely herself, strong, confident, and capable. And to be aware of it.”
